Deutsche Telekom today announced an extension of its strategic agreement with Google Cloud, securing their partnership through 2030. The renewed pact positions Google Cloud as Deutsche Telekom’s preferred partner for cloud and AI integration across IT systems, networks, and core business applications.
It underscores both companies’ commitment to driving digital transformation in the telecom sector while enhancing efficiency and customer satisfaction.
This move follows earlier collaborations, such as the One Data Ecosystem platform and the development of a sovereign cloud offering in Germany. By deepening ties with Google Cloud, Deutsche Telekom aims to modernize its SAP landscape, scale data and AI workloads, and deliver new services with improved agility. From my perspective, this agreement marks a shift toward an AI-first strategy in telecom operations.
Partnership Expansion and Long-Term Vision
Agreement Extension and Goals
The updated agreement runs until 2030 and emphasizes three key areas: cloudification of Deutsche Telekom’s infrastructure, integration of AI capabilities, and enhancement of business applications.
Deutsche Telekom is becoming an AI-first company. By leveraging data and AI, we are improving agility and optimizing digital solutions across all our business entities… Our collaboration with Google Cloud further strengthens these efforts, driving innovation and efficiency.
Stefan Schloter, CIO Europe at Deutsche Telekom
Under this deal, Google Cloud will guide the migration of essential systems and offer scalable computing power to meet growing data demands. Both companies expect the partnership to boost operational efficiency, reduce time to market for new services, and set a new standard for telecom innovation.
One Data Ecosystem: Consolidating Data and AI
ODE Platform Features
Central to the collaboration is the One Data Ecosystem (ODE), a secure, AI-integrated platform designed to unify on-premises and cloud data. ODE accelerates data processing, ensures compliance with European regulations, and enables advanced AI-driven insights.
By consolidating data sources, Deutsche Telekom can deploy AI applications more rapidly and respond to market needs with tailored offerings.
SAP2SKY: Migrating Core Systems to the Cloud
Migration Strategy
The SAP2SKY initiative will shift Deutsche Telekom’s SAP estate onto Google Cloud’s infrastructure. This effort aims to centralize and modernize enterprise resource planning, improve scalability, and enhance system resilience.
With Google Cloud’s deep SAP partnership, Deutsche Telekom expects smoother upgrades, better compliance, and more flexible resource management across its global operations.
Leveraging Vertex AI for Innovation
RAN Guardian
Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud are co-developing RAN Guardian, an AI agent for autonomous network operations. Built on Vertex AI and Gemini models, this agent analyzes network behavior, identifies issues, and implements corrective actions in realtime.
The goal is to reduce downtime, lower operational costs, and deliver more reliable connectivity to customers.
We look forward to collaborating with Deutsche Telekom to help the company further develop innovative solutions that provide enhanced experiences for end users.

MyMagenta App Enhancements
Integration of Google’s Gemini Multimodal Live API into the MyMagenta consumer app brings real-time translation, image-based text interpretation, and voice interactions.
These features create a more intuitive user experience and showcase how AI can add everyday value. Users can translate signs, documents, or conversations on the go, directly through their smartphone camera or microphone.
History of Collaboration and Future Outlook
Sovereign Cloud and 5G Core
Deutsche Telekom and Google Cloud first teamed up in 2021 to launch a sovereign cloud in Germany, operated by T‑Systems. This offering addresses strict data sovereignty requirements with supervised and hosted cloud models.
In 2022, Deutsche Telekom began hosting its 5G core on Google Cloud, leveraging the platform’s reliability and scalability for critical network functions.
Data Center Footprint
T‑Systems manages 16 data centers in Germany, with plans to add five more by late 2024. Google Cloud supports these efforts with local regions in Frankfurt and Berlin, established in 2017 and 2023 respectively.
This combined footprint ensures low-latency connectivity and robust disaster recovery for Deutsche Telekom’s cloud services.
About the Companies
Deutsche Telekom ranks among Europe’s leading telecommunications providers. It serves over 200 million mobile customers worldwide and invests heavily in network infrastructure, digital services, and sustainable operations.
Google Cloud offers a comprehensive suite of cloud, AI, data analytics, and security solutions. It supports organizations across industries with planet-scale infrastructure, generative AI models, and developer tools designed for performance and innovation.
From our viewpoint, this strengthened partnership positions Deutsche Telekom to lead telecom innovation and meet evolving customer expectations. As cloud and AI technologies advance, this alliance sets the stage for new services and business models in the digital era.
